15 Things You Need To Know About Telltale’s Game of Thrones

The teaser trailer for “Iron from Ice”,  the first episode in Telltale Games’ next episodic series Game of Thrones dropped this morning (see it for yourself at the bottom of this article). After some speculation, it has been confirmed that the game will be based on the award winning TV show by HBO. Here’s what else you need to know about GoT:

1. There will be 6 episodes, the first of which being “Iron from Ice”

2. As mentioned above, the game will be based on the TV show, with Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Natalie Dormer reprising their roles and providing voice performances as Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister and Margaery Tyrell respectively


3. There are thirteen original characters, with players taking control of 5 from House Forrester. These 5 characters will either be a direct family member or a person in service to the House

4. Details about the characters featuring in the game were revealed on a number of different sites (see table below)

Asher Forrester Asher had always been a rebellious youth – brawling in taverns, sleeping with whores, and finding ways to raise his father’s ire.  But his life took a dark turn when, at age seventeen, he fell in love with Gwyn Whitehill, the eldest daughter of his father’s bitter rival. Ethan Forrester He was young when his house joined the War of the Five Kings, and the end of the war placed him into a role which he was “unprepared for.” Gamespot
Talia Forrester During her fourth pregnancy, Lady Forrester dreamed she would birth a daughter with a voice like the summer rain. But as fate would have it, she gave birth to a boy. The infant, Ethan, wailed for hours – until Lady Forrester entered a second labor, this time birthing a girl. Gamesradar
Mira Forrester Mira had always been fond of Ironrath, but Lady Forrester — wanting her eldest daughter to learn the ways of a Southron court — arranged for Mira to serve as a handmaiden to Margaery Tyrell. Polygon
Ryon Forrester Ryon is the fourth-born son of House Forrester and admires his older siblings. He’s been spared from hardship as his childhood has been pleasant and he’s had little to no responsibilities to worry about. Escapist
Maester Ortengryn Originating from a minor house in the Vale, Maester Ortengryn studied at the Citadel in the hope of being assigned to the Eyrie. But by the time he’d earned enough links on his chain to graduate from acolyte, Jon Arryn had been murdered and the South was in turmoil. Wired
Malcolm Branfield s a young man, Malcolm was the black sheep of the Branfield family. He liked to roam the countryside in the style of a hedge knight, refusing his father’s offers of marriage and lands. Malcolm fought bravely alongside his brothers when House Branfield fell; yet he and his sister were the only two survivors. Nerdist
Gared Tuttle Gared was raised on stories of heroism about the likes of Arthur Dayne and Symeon Star-Eyes. Though the son of a pig farmer, he has always aspired to one day become a warrior himself. IGN
Duncan Tuttle As a boy, Duncan showed such talent for managing his family’s farm that everyone assumed he’d one day take over.  But Duncan was fated to run more than fields and a pigpen.  In time he struck up an unlikely friendship with Gregor Forrester, the heir to House Forrester. Yahoo Games
Royland Degore Royland Degore joined Lord Forrester’s army after his family was wiped out by Ironborn during Balon Greyjoy’s rebellion. Degore had a natural grasp of military tactics and strategy and came to play a crucial role in the siege of Pyke that ended the war. The Verge

5. The Forrester’s live in the stronghold Ironrath in the Wolfswood. As Northmen, the Forrester’s are loyal to House Stark


6. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’ which Telltale states “echoes their belief that the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger”

7. The Forrester’s are not in the TV show, but feature in ‘A Dance with Dragons’, the fifth instalment of George R. R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ epic saga


8. There is no official release date for Episode 1 yet, but it is said to be launching by the end of 2014

10. The game will feature a number of familiar locations including King’s Landing and The Wall


11. HBO assigned George R. R. Martin’s personal assistant Ty Corey Franck as a story consultant for the game

12. The game will run concurrently with the TV show and will not be a prequel (similar to The Wolf Among Us)

13. The events in Telltale’s series will begin towards the end of Season 3 of the TV show and end “right before the beginning of Season 5″


14. It will launch on iOS, Mac, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One

15. It’s going to be AWESOME

Considering how incredible the last few Telltale games have been, Game of Thrones has exceptionally large boots to fill. However as we learned with The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: Season Two, if anyone can not only deliver but exceed expectations, it is Telltale.
